About Dion Lee
The Australian designer founded his eponymous brand in 2009, straight out of fashion school in Sydney, and quickly established himself as one of fashion’s most exciting architectural minds. His aesthetic is defined by experimental construction, sculptural silhouettes, and an intelligent sensuality that explores the relationship between fabric and the human form. Lee’s designs are unmistakable: strategic cutouts, engineered textiles that form embellishments, architectural shapes dissected to enhance movement, air, and light. He draws inspiration from unexpected sources (weather radar, labyrinths, the Zero art movement, and architecture by Tadao Ando) translating these influences into garments that feel both structural and fluid. His work often features strong stretch fabrics and maintains a genderless approach, allowing pieces to be worn across the brand’s entire collection. After debuting at Australian Fashion Week in 2009, Lee became the first designer to hold a runway show at the Sydney Opera House. He transitioned to showing in London, then became a fixture at New York Fashion Week from 2014 onward. His designs have attracted a devoted celebrity following: Taylor Swift wore one of his corsets to the Super Bowl, while FKA Twigs, Dua Lipa, and Blackpink have all chosen his custom pieces. Though the brand faced financial challenges in 2024 (going into voluntary administration before being acquired by Revolve Group), Lee continues as creative director, pushing boundaries in construction and challenging conventions around what fashion can be when technical precision meets creative ambition.
