About Avavav
Avavav is fashion as performance art, social commentary, and viral spectacle all at once. Founded in Florence in 2021 and now based in Stockholm, the brand is led by creative director Beate Karlsson, a Swedish designer who transforms fashion shows into unforgettable cultural moments. Her runway presentations have featured models intentionally falling, audience members throwing trash at models, and mock athletic competitions, all designed to critique the shallow aspects of fashion and consumer culture. Karlsson’s approach centers on three pillars: humor, entertainment, and design evolution. She creates pieces using deadstock fabrics from luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci, transforming waste into bold, satirical statements. Think rhinestone-encrusted hoodies reading “”Filthy Rich,”” exaggerated silhouettes that mock athleticism, and tongue-in-cheek graphics that parody luxury branding. Her collaboration with Adidas Originals, dubbed “”High Fashion, Low Performance,”” perfectly encapsulates this irreverent spirit. Despite the theatrics, there’s serious intention behind Avavav’s work. The brand explores themes of technology, human-machine relationships, and fashion’s cyclical nature. Collections have referenced everything from social media hate comments to gothic streetwear emerging from grave-like runways. Avavav has found particular success in China, where viral clips and celebrity endorsements (including Blackpink’s Jennie) have built a devoted following. This is fashion that refuses to be ignored: bold, provocative, and unapologetically unserious about an industry that often takes itself too seriously.
